  • My dad is buying a refurbished pc. How can you tell if it really has been formatted?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010 and filed under refurbished pc |

No os disc to do again.
He is in another state.I have to guide him over the phone.
    How do you check?
apparently some pc refurbishers only delete all periphials and non windows files and restore to original settings without formatting.
Is there a way to check the date the volume was created in windows. I’m a mac user .. explains that …..

If it comes with an operating system on it from a fresh install then it’s been formatted. I don’t think anyone would sell a used hard drive without formatting it anyway. If it is from a reputable company or person then they probably used a formatting program to "incinerate" the old files and data.

Anyway if you buy a refurb computer and it works then that’s all you need to worry about.

    Have a good day.

start run>Eventvwr (windows though),click on the application tree in the left pane and scroll way down to the bottom
Track down the earliest entry, if there is a boat load of them earlier in the list (like when the PC would have been brand new) it has not been formated, just cleaned up although there’s nothing wrong with that, "just like new".
