other than ps3 or …
other than ps3 or standard blu-ray. The addon for pc is just useless. Because even if a game requires 40GB for pc, they will just bundle it with 3 dual-layer compressed dvds. Because pc is not like console were you have to insert the disk to play. On pc you just install once and thats it.

blue ray drives are very reasonable right now on new egg, 150-200 for one isnt too bad and they can hold like 25 or 50 GB.

I know a guy, NOT …
I know a guy, NOT ME, but someone I know. Has an HTPC which he displays on a 50″ LCD. He has a Blu-Ray drive to RENT, RIP, RETURN; he rents movies from Netflix, rips them to his HDD, then returns the movies the same day, exponentially increasing blu-ray connection in no time. So Blu-Ray has been a great addition to him.
Again, RENT, RIP, and RETURN is illegal you should only rip movies that you own personally which is why I DON’T do it. But if you do, having a Blu-Ray is a huge ILLEGAL bonus.

Blu-ray drives are …
Blu-ray drives are Much faster than normal CD drivers from my experiance.
For instance, a DVD drive crashed the windows explorer window when trying to rip an AVI file from my DVD disk, but the blueray drive ate it up, no problems.
If you have the option between the two, i’d always go for the blu-ray

I think it is worth …
I think it is worth to get a Blu-Ray drive, if you have a monitor with at least a 1920×1200 resolution, so you can see Blu-Ray movies on it.
Other than that, I don’t think it is time already for having also a drive capable of burning Blu-Ray, maybe at this point it is more than enough with a Blu-Ray lector.

Dead on. Except the …
Dead on. Except the 360’s growing even more as far as media goes. Netflix and soon to be LastFM, Facebook, ZuneHD movies (rumors of HULU) and other features that are very appealing. PS3’s got some good stuff but it is struggling.

Xbox HD-DVD failed, …
Xbox HD-DVD failed, but the 360 is thriving right now. PS3 Blu-Ray did wonderfully, but the actual console is not doing great in terms of profit for Sony. One is better for games and the other for media.

blu-rays future at …
blu-rays future at this point is uncertain. compact disc storage is on it’s way out. flash drives and internet downloads are the future. i wouldn’t recommend anyone rebuying their movie collection in blu-ray. give this technology another 5 years… and we’ll all be downloading streaming and/or downloading our movies. internet download speeds are the only thing holding them back right now.
