If you’ve watched any of my Tech Shakedown videos here on ZDNet, you’d know that I’ve been asking viewers to let me know if they know of a breakdown that needs to be the subject of a Tech Shakedown. In cases where suggestions like these come from ZDNet’s audience members (and I have been getting them, thank you!), I do have to check them out. Well, this one definitely checked out.
A couple of weeks ago, Andrés, an engineer that reads ZDNet wrote the following to me via e-mail:
Lately HP brought on the market a series of pavilion notebooks that where on high demand because of their all in one features.
But it seems that there’s been a cover-up on the reliability of their performance. A lot of costumers who bought their notebooks are currently experiencing the same problem two major problems with their systems.
How does Andres know about these other customers? Well, since June 2007, they’ve been flooding HP’s Web site with complaints about how their Pavilion notebook computers are randomly losing any sense of the fact that they have wireless adapters in them (which in turn causes a loss of productivity). The thread is so flooded with messages that the only way I can get Web browser to view the entire thing without seizing is to close most of my other applications.

Bogus! You know that they had a battery recall for some of them overheating & causing fires. I have a 9620 (9500) I am about to send it back to the shop after they made me fix my own hinges first… I couldn’t afford a Mac & I don’t know if any other laptop PC’s are better than this or not? do you?

Well mine is a bit different. My light went off, my volume is no longer working, and the battery sucks. I paid 50 dollars to HP idiots that lives in in India to fix this and it led to a dumb system restore and the still didn’t work. This is the last time I but any of their products. They are a piece of . They said I needed a new internal wireless card but obviously the only way I can get that is if I pay them because they don’t have these in stores.

Did you have a problem with the Optical drive missing? It’s still missing & the hinges were broken, Staples told me to send it in that way to the warranty place, then they told me that I dropped it, which is bullshit. So I fixed the hinges myself & have to send it back to them again & see if they will fix it, again!, I have tried everything. It keeps trying to load the drive, then it crashes & goes dead,,, sigh!

Same here, tx 1000 …
Same here, tx 1000 with dead wifi - problem due to MB (specifically the nvidia chip). Need people to flood hp forums and sign petitions. Called HP, they recognize the problem, but claim not enough people have contacted them.

Mine died too but it wasn’t covered with the extended warranty. It’s very well known that the motherboard is at fault. After paying hundreds of dollars spent on a laptop you would think quality would be included. I bought a USB wifi instead.

G-damn HP, they …
G-damn HP, they suck so badly & so does Staples warranty! They won’t cover anything!! I paid $1200 for a dv9620 & an extra $200 for extended warranty.. my hinge is broken, I never take it out of the house, it is taken care of, this is not my fault! No one will fix it!! Also my Optical drive is not working & I have tried to get help, all they say it delete & reinstall the BIOS, that is their answer for everything, it doesnt work, them!!
