  • What kind of cheap laptop should I get?

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2009 and filed under cheap laptop |

I need a laptop for word processing, to run simple games (like solitaire or backgammon), to make music playlists, and to do simple wireless internet surfing.

I want a small computer, but one with a keyboard that's large enough for touch typing.

I want it to be cheap, and would consider an out-of-date model.

Any thoughts on what I should look for or how much I need to spend?

    Thank you.

For cheap laptops, you have a few options:

    1. 15-inch laptop - best value, but a bit bulky. Start around $500, and should be more than adequate.
    2. 14-inch laptop - slightly lighter, but still can get decent speed starting around $600
    3. Netbooks - ranging from 7.1 to 12.1 inches, they're cheap and tiny, but have limitations. They don't have CD drives, and the keyboards are usually 80-90% of the normal size. Prices range from $300-$600, but don't expect Windows Vista.

Something that might be a bit out of date by now is a Dell Inspiron 1520. It's my first laptop and it's really nice and works for all that. I'm a student so I use microsoft word a lot on it, and it has a lot of memory for music and it has the typical computer games. I got it for $500 but it was on sale, I think it's regularly $599 or something in that area. They're priced well at Best Buy. It's a 17 inch I believe with a good sized keyboard and it's still transportable.
