I am planning to sell my old Gateway E-4000 on the Internet (Ebay). I am of course, trying to get the most money out of it. Is there something on the Internet (FREE) that I can use to accurately calculate it’s real value?
It’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
A rough guess can be obtained by looking at complete auction listings on ebay for similar items. That shows what the things really sell for, not what price someone is asking for them. You need to sign up as an ebay member (free) to get access to that information.
As a rule of thumb or rough estimate, figure you can get ~80% of the value a new system of equivalent performance would sell for.
The Acer comes with Window 7 already installed. The HP you have to upgrade.
I had to search wide to get reviews and details since that beyond the processor (a Pentium Dual Core T4300), you did not specify models.
The clear winner here is the "new" Acer not the "refurbished" HP, in fact the Acer would have won against a new HP of this type.
It wins because of Windows 7, because it is new with a better warranty and because of many other smaller details.
No os disc to do again.
He is in another state.I have to guide him over the phone.
How do you check?
apparently some pc refurbishers only delete all periphials and non windows files and restore to original settings without formatting.
Is there a way to check the date the volume was created in windows. I’m a mac user .. explains that …..
If it comes with an operating system on it from a fresh install then it’s been formatted. I don’t think anyone would sell a used hard drive without formatting it anyway. If it is from a reputable company or person then they probably used a formatting program to "incinerate" the old files and data.
Anyway if you buy a refurb computer and it works then that’s all you need to worry about.
Have a good day.
if you have ever bought one or know someone who has can you please tell me if it was good or not. thanks.
To me it would depend on the cost and how long the guarantee was for. I bought my son a refurbished PS2 from gamestation and it had a years guarantee and it was perfect.
Im just willing to buy a lap top or a pc, maybe a game console too and reurbished ones are way cheaper. What does refurbished mean (i know what it means haha) BUT why they were refurbished? what defect they had? Where they used before? Does a refurbished one lasts for a shorter time?
Sometimes all of that model were lemons and now are repaired lemons. Sometimes you have a brand new reliable model that has a problem so you replace it with a new one and fix and resell the the one that had a problem
I’ve seen some good deals online with product support packages, but am unsure as to how reliable refurbished pc’s would be.
Any insights would be much appreciated.
got a refurbished laptop a year ago, and it’s still going strong!
i just bought a refurbished keyboard online not know it was, its a logitech g11… i mean logitech is a good brand but i cant cancel it, it was on ebay. im kinda freaked out now what do you think?
They are cheap new, so, i guess you must have got one good deal. ~
I am thinking of buying it but i want a dual core cpu. I just want to know if i can just stick a cpu in the socket and it works. The dual core i want is on tigerdirect http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2470587&CatId=2328 and the emachine is http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4914966&CatId=2628
Emachine=Crap…. Power Supplies Fail on them all the time….Rate of Failure is really high..
however the answer to your question is yes.. It’s capable…
Note : I’m not entirely sure on if this is the Soldered LE AMD no where in the documentation does it say that it’s soldered so idk
I am thinking of buying this from tigerdirect. It only cost 170 bucks. But i have a question about the cpu. I want to upgrade to a dual core amd. Can someone tell me if the cpu that is already installed in the pc is soldered on? Because i know name brand pc’s do things so that you cant upgrade and stuff. And can someone give me step by step instructions on how to install the cpu. I know how to set it in the socket and needs to match the am2 socket but do i just socket it in and the pc work or what?
The CPU is not soldered on. That hasn’t happened for years (10+).
You can upgrade the processor, but it needs to be a low wattage (45 - 65w) processor. It only has a 250w power supply, so don’t expect much to be upgraded without upgrading the power supply first.

i thinking about buying a good refurbished pc from pc world but im not sure if i should because its refurbished what should i do
That’s fine, but…
Be sure of a sensible warranty, the when you get it home, put it through (what we Techies call a ‘Burn In’.
What’s a ‘Burn In’?
Put it through a ‘constantly working’ chore, like backing up the HDD overnight. See if you can ’stick’ the keyboard with pressing two keys at once, (If it gets stuck, can ya ‘unstick’ it with the Task Manager.
Put it in a resolution that the monitor is not designed for, if it complains can you reboot in ‘Safe Mode’, change it back and reboot.
When on-line, try loading the same site (page) several times, if it hangs, can ya fix it easily?
Try a CD and a DVD in the drive, if it’s optical. Can ya read both, can ya write both (both discs must be RW (Rewritable).
If something don’t work, you know what to do, however, if things work fine, you can be assured that you have a ‘fine’ PC.
