I’m in the market for a good desktop. I have always had a Sony laptop and my boyfriend, an Hp. I am not to fond of Hp’s and would like to find a good long lasting desktop for my work at home. Can anyone recommend one that isn’t to expensive. Thanks
DELL , APPLE OR LENOVO
I HAVE CURRENTLY DELL ONE DESKTOP
AND LENOVO LAPTOP
AND I KNOW APPLE IS ALSO GOOD ON ITS SIDE
I know the obvious; they are smaller and less powerful. But some modern laptops challenge desktops in performance. How are laptops so much more efficient?
They stress every part to their limit to work together with their own consumption. The PSU’s for example, provide literally the exact wattage that is needed for the rest of the system to run, PC’s are basically ‘build upon a barebone’ and can range from large PSU’s to power cheap parts, or power hungry parts made that can never be fit into a laptop.
Laptops cannot be overclocked for example, since it’d consume too much power and overheat the motherboard at an unhealthy rate, that’s just how it is, laptops were made to be as powerful as they can, PC’s can continue to grow.
The pc that is supposed to use the printer wireless won’t connect to my printer. When it searches for printers in a network it comes up with the pc name of the computer that is plugged into the printer. Isn’t it supposed to come up with the name of the printer?
Try installing drivers on both computers.
How do you like the Dell All-in-One desktop vs. the HP touchsmart all-in-one pc?
And what do you think of All-in-one Desktops vs. regular Desktops in general? I am looking for a new computer and need some advice on if these are any good or not. Got any experience or tips you’d like to share?
Personally, I prefer tower systems to AiO’s. I like the fact that I can just slide and lift the side panel and I have immediate access to the inside of my systems. It’s very easy to perform upgrades or repairs inside a tower, such as changing a power supply, adding cards, memory, hard drives or optical drives, because there’s plenty of room. AiO’s have limited upgrade potential, kind of like a laptop for a desk. I’m pretty sure you can add more memory, but as far as being able to add another hard drive, optical drive, graphics card or power supply upgrade, you pretty much have to take it to an authorized service center ($). I’m a "hands on" kind of guy, so those kind of systems don’t appeal to me.
I know I can move between desktops and open windows on them (or rather spaces) and switch between them by pressing F8. But if I open a window on one desktop, can I then shift it across to another one?
In your System Preferences: Spaces, it will tell you which button to click to "Activate Spaces". By pressing this button, your view will "zoom out" and you will be able to see all of your spaces. You can then click on any of the windows in each space and drag it into a different space.
The other alternative is to simply grab any window while you’re still in a single space, and drag it to the edge of your screen. Depending on which edge you drag it to, the window will be transferred to the adjacent space.
In Snow Leopard, you can use the new Trackpad Handwriting to input Chinese characters by drawing them on the trackpad with your finger. I have Spaces enabled so that I have multiple desktops to work on, but the Trackpad Handwriting window only appears on the first desktop. How can I make the window appear on all spaces?
shift+control+space. to open it.
hope that helps.

Since i’m planning to buy a new desktop shortly i just want to know whether branded PCs come with NVIDIA graphics card. And i also want to know the basic price for NVIDIA 9800 in india?
It depends on the computer model. Check the PC’s specifications before buying it to confirm.
Sorry, I don’t know about India but in the USA:
An NVidia 9800 GT is about $130
An NVidia 9800 GTX is about $180
